We share in God’s mission to reach out, give life by sharing our personal and financial resources to: - proclaim the Gospel, - serve people in need, - act for peace, justice and creation; In partnership with local churches, so that all may have life in Christ.
About Catholic Mission
Catholic Mission is the Pope’s international Mission agency in Australia.
An international organisation that partners with communities, helping them to flourish by supporting grassroots projects, including healthcare, education, and spiritual care.
Our network of religious and lay missionaries operates in Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, the Americas. Catholic Mission’s work supports children, communities, and future Church leaders across education, healthcare, and spiritual care.
Our Mission
Local and Global
Catholic Mission, as the Australian agency of the Pontifical Mission Societies contributes funding and provides project support to critical church-run initiatives in Africa, Asia, Oceania and South America as well as remote dioceses within Australia. Catholic Mission creates opportunities for people to be formed in mission, and respond through prayer, fundraising and action, inspiring them to reach out, and give life—within Australia and around the world. All of us engage in mission when we proclaim our faith through our words, actions and lives.
See Our Work in ActionThe development of all initiatives, projects and programs are identified at the grassroots level through the extensive network that the Pontifical Mission Societies has throughout the world. We work with Church and community leaders in order to give people the opportunity for a full, enriched life—physically and spiritually—regardless of race, stigma, religion or gender.
Mission in action is never confined to a single person or to the present moment, but extends through communities, across generations, and eternally.
The work of mission by its nature cannot exclude anyone. Catholic Mission contributes funding and project support to critical Church-run initiatives in four areas:
- Work with communities through Propagation of the Faith
- Work with children through the Society of the Holy Childhood or Children’s Mission
- Work with Church Leaders through Society of St Peter the Apostle
- Mission formation through the Pontifical Mission Union
The Pontifical Mission Societies were founded in 1822 by a lay single woman named Pauline Jaricot. From humble beginnings the first Pontifical Mission Society was started and today Catholic Mission acts as the Pope's own mission organisation in Australia.
Our People
We are a cohesive team; united, skilled, inspired and motivated, Australia-wide and internationally.
